meniscus optics

Meniscus lenses allow minimal spherical aberrations when a parallel beam enters the convex surface. This results in a minimum focal spot size for the incoming collimated light source. Positive meniscus lenses have greater curvature (shorter radius of curvature) on the convex side and a smaller curvature (longer radius of curvature) on the concave side.

Negative Meniscus lenses are offered as an alternative to other negative lenses and are particularly appropriate for the high index IR materials. They are commonly used in beam expanding applications where minimal spherical aberration is desired. Negative meniscus lenses have greater curvature (shorter radius of curvature) on the concave side and a smaller curvature (longer radius of curvature) on the convex side.

In addition to the standard meniscus lenses listed below, Phoenix Infrared can design and produce a wide range of custom meniscus lenses to meet your application needs.  Meniscus lenses can be provided as a generated blank, polished optic and coated to your requirements.

Materials available include: ZnSe, Ge, ZnS, Multispectral ZnS (Cleartran equivalent), CaF2, BaF2, Si, BK7, other.

High Power CO2 Laser ZnSe Focusing Lenses

Industrial laser ZnSe Focusing Lenses are made from Phoenix Infrared’s own laser grade CVD zinc selenide. We control the quality of the optic from material, through fabrication and coating, thus ensuring that you receive the highest quality optic in the market. We produce optics for these laser system makers and others: Amada®, Bystronic®, Cincinnati®, Mitsubishi®, Mazak®, Trumpf®.
